Ellie Holtaway, DVM

Originally from Carlsbad, California, Dr. Holtaway earned her undergraduate and veterinary degrees at Kansas State University. She thrives in the fast-paced world of emergency medicine, with strong interests in surgery, trauma care, wound management, and toxicology. Dr. Holtaway finds deep fulfillment in stabilizing critically ill pets and seeing them return home healthy. Outside the hospital, she leads an active life with her three cats—Pancake, Toastie, and Maple—and enjoys gardening, running, swimming, and competitive artistic swimming.

Justin Jarrell, DVM

Dr. Jarrell, a Reidsville, NC native, holds a degree in Exercise Physiology from East Carolina University and earned his DVM at NC State University. After completing a rotating internship with Vets Pets, he joined the Points East team with a passion for emergency medicine. Known for his analytical mind and love of problem-solving, he brings a thoughtful and composed presence to the ER. When not at work, Dr. Jarrell enjoys staying active and cheering on his favorite sports teams.

Dr. Abigail Brady

Raney Jones, DVM

Born and raised in Wake Forest, NC, Dr. Jones is a proud double graduate of NC State University, where she earned both her undergraduate and veterinary degrees. Her clinical interests include emergency care, surgery, and advocacy for brachycephalic breeds. When she’s not at the hospital, you’ll find her on the family farm with her quarter horses, goats, and French Bulldogs—Prim and Bodi. She’s also an avid animal rescuer and foster mom, adding heart and warmth to everything she does.

Dr. Stephanie Pferdeort

Stephanie Pferdeort, DVM

Dr. Pferdeort graduated from Ross University in 2009 and has since developed expertise in polytrauma management, soft tissue surgery, toxicology, transfusion medicine, acupuncture, and reiki. Originally from Baltimore, she previously served as Chief of Emergency Services at another hospital. Outside of work, she enjoys kayaking, fishing, board games (especially Scrabble), and crafting recycled art. Her animal companions include a three-legged Maine Coon named Pfoster and a pitbull named Pfergus.

Dr. Katherine Rouillard

Katherine Rouillard, DVM

Dr. Rouillard is a North Carolina transplant from Massachusetts who earned both her Zoology and Veterinary Medicine degrees from NC State University. After completing a rotating internship with Vets Pets, she joined Points East in 2019. She’s passionate about soft tissue surgery, critical care, and seeing her patients recover and return home. Certified in equine acupuncture, she spends much of her downtime at the barn with her horse, Phoebe.

Kaitlin Shields, DVM

A Delaware native, Dr. Shields earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware and completed her DVM at NC State. After an emergency-focused internship with Vets Pets, she joined Points East with interests in emergency medicine, feline care, and soft tissue surgery. Dr. Shields is also Fear-Free certified, dedicated to making veterinary visits as stress-free as possible. When she’s not at work, she enjoys cooking, reading, and cheering for her beloved Philadelphia sports teams—always with her orange cat, Nemo, nearby.

Dr. Stephanie Pferdeort

Kori Smith, DVM

Originally from Florida, Dr. Smith has called North Carolina home for over a decade. She earned her undergraduate degree from NC A&T State University, where she was a national champion bowler, before transferring to NC State and later completing her DVM at the University of Tennessee. Her passion for emergency medicine is rooted in her lifelong love for animals. Outside the hospital, she enjoys spending time with her big family, staying active, and relaxing with her pets, Kanga and Odi.

Dr. Ashley Wagner

Ashley Wagner, DVM, DABVP

Dr. Wagner is a North Carolina State graduate with board certification from the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP). She has special interests in feline medicine, ultrasound, and treating companion exotics. From rehabilitating seabirds to performing advanced diagnostics, her wide-ranging experience enriches every case. In her free time, she enjoys trail running, cooking, and circus arts like aerial silks and hoop. Her creativity and compassion make her a standout member of the emergency team.
